Services

Design, analysis, and a clean handoff

Scoped optical engineering—not a catalog of products. Each item below can stand alone or combine into a single engagement.

  • 01

    Illumination design

Non-imaging systems: source-to-target mapping, light pipes, reflectors, and luminaire optics. Models include source files, collected flux, and uniformity against stated targets.

  • 02

    Imaging systems

First-order layout through aberration and tolerance analysis. Sequential models for visible, NIR, and custom spectral bands.

  • 03

    Freeform / inverse design

Surface generation against prescribed irradiance or wavefront targets—used when rotationally symmetric forms cannot meet the specification.

  • 04

    OpticStudio analysis & CAD handoff

Ansys Zemax OpticStudio sequential and non-sequential models, merit functions, and tolerance budgets. Geometry export (STEP/IGES) for mechanical teams.

  • 05

    Client reporting

Written assumptions, methods, results, and recommended next steps. Structured for internal review or a vendor RFQ—not a slide deck of claims.

Approach

How the work is framed

  1. 01

    Assumptions explicit

Every engagement starts with documented sources, constraints, wavelengths, and success criteria. Results are only as useful as the assumptions they rest on.

  2. 02

    Technical deliverables

Typical packages include OpticStudio files, analysis notes, CAD-ready surfaces, and a written report. Scope is agreed before work begins.

  3. 03

    Confidentiality

Client geometry, source data, and results stay with the engagement. NDAs are routine. No work is used as a public case study without permission.

About

A technical consulting practice

Formlight Optics is the client-facing DBA of Five Talent Consulting. The practice is optical engineering: design, analysis, and documentation for product teams that need an independent engineer—not a software product and not a fabrication house.

Engagements typically begin with a short scoping note: the problem statement, existing data, and the decision the analysis needs to support.
